LiDAR in Complex Terrain: Technical Posters at WindEurope 2026

We have participated in the technical programme of Wind Europe Annual Event 2026, held in Madrid, presenting two posters focused on LiDAR applications in complex terrain for wind resource assessment and performance evaluation.

These contributions highlight key methodologies and practical approaches for improving measurement accuracy and reducing uncertainty in challenging wind farm environments.

The first poster (PO118), Suitability of Ground LiDAR for Power Curve Testing in complex terrain, developed by Ana Barreno Ortega, Wind Turbine Test Engineer, evaluates the use of ground-based LiDAR systems for Power Curve Testing (PCT) under non-ideal site conditions.

The study includes Site Calibration (SC) approaches combining LiDAR measurements at the reference position with a hub-height met mast at the turbinelocation, enabling more reliable performance assessments in complex terrain.

The second poster (PO408), LiDAR measurement campaign definition in non-flat terrain, developed by Ricardo Martínez, Project Manager, focuses on the design of LiDAR measurement campaigns in non-flat terrain, addressing key challenges such as measurement positioning, data representativeness, and terrain-induced flow complexity.

By integrating CFD simulations with LiDAR measurements, the proposed methodology supports the design of the measurement campaign, improves the data interpretation, and helps to reduce uncertainty in wind measurement campaigns under non flat conditions.

Together, these works contribute to advancing best practices in wind measurement, LiDAR deployment, and wind resource assessment in complex environments, supporting more accurate energy yield assessments and wind farm performance analysis.

Our participation in the Wind Europe 2026 poster programme reinforces its commitment to technical innovation, applied research, and continuous improvement of wind measurement methodologies within the global wind industry.
